Master’s Level Social Work Intern
My name is Sara Troccoli and I am currently working on my Master’s in Social Work through Aurora University. My journey in mental health started back in 2010 when I received my bachelor’s degree in social work from Illinois State University. From there I was able to develop as a professional through a variety of roles, which include child/adolescent/adult case management, behavioral health counseling, crisis work, and leading group sessions. My experience has been mainly through community mental health; however, I do have experience in inpatient mental health treatment as well.
Through my years in the field, I have worked with individuals of all ages, but I have developed a passion for working with teens and young adults. I also have a passion for working with military veterans and their families as they go through the many transitions throughout service and thereafter. My goal in treatment is to assist the individual in working through challenging issues, developing and/or further developing self-love, developing coping strategies, and effectively developing and utilizing supports. I do feel that in addressing these areas we can learn to change negative thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors to create a more positive path in life.
I work very hard to create an environment of acceptance and understanding, where an individual can come and speak freely in a space that is non-judgmental. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the main form of therapy I use; however, I have training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Gottman’s Level I couples therapy.
My passion for mental health is the core of the therapy that I provide, and I welcome everyone, no matter their beliefs or walk of life. I look forward to meeting you and beginning this journey with you.
